Happy Friday

Happy Friday! This week was definitely more of a normal week. I am a huge fan of Chip and Joanna Gaines of HGTV’s Fixer Upper. So this week’s Happy Friday posts are all about the Gaines! So even if you don’t know who they are, I really encourage you to take some time and watch the videos and learn about this amazing couple!

1. This week they actually had their book come out on the shelves and I’m so excited to get it to read it.

Spring Cleaning

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend.  I unfortunately was unable to be home for Mother’s Day, but I was able to have a nice conversation on the phone with my Mom.  Luckily, I’ll be going home in about a month!  I’ll be home for 5 days, including Father’s Day!  So let the countdown begin to the end of the school year.

So now I have to confess something — I haven’t forgotten about my blog!  Things have just been so crazy the past month, month and a half.  I actually had written this post a week ago and so here I am now, playing catch up.

This past weekend was a very busy weekend.  Saturday was very busy because not only did Shawn and I help to move my roommate out (she’s going into the Navy in a few weeks!) but we also did a deep spring cleaning and redecorating of my condo as well.

There’s something so satisfying about sitting down after a long day of cleaning and looking around to see everything in its place.  The condo definitely feels a little more empty, but at the same time, it’s nice not having clutter along every wall.

In order to making the spring cleaning a little easier, I took 3 bins and labeled them: (1) Give Away; (2) Sell; (3) Trash.  As I went through every room, I was able to have a designated place for everything.  Thanks to my friend Alyse, I found out about the app called “Offer Up“.  Within minutes of me posting my TV Stand to sell, someone messaged me through the app and came over to buy it.  I love how easy it was to post it and it was definitely easier than CraigsList or something like that, because no personal information was exchanged.

Decorating for Christmas

I just LOVE decorating for Christmas! I’ve already shared previously that while at home for Thanksgiving break, I had the chance to decorate my parent’s house.  We set up our tree and put ornaments on it! The past 5 or 6 years, we’ve had a fake tree. The year before we finally got a fake tree, our tree kept falling because it wasn’t in its stand correctly.  It came to the point where my mom and I were stuck holding up the tree so it wouldn’t break all of our ornaments, until my dad had gotten home from work. Luckily, it was only 10 minutes or so that we were stuck holding it up.  It was quite comical though.

About a month ago, I pulled out all of my Christmas decorations at my place here, and decided to put my lights up in the window, and put up my mini American Girl tree that my aunt had gotten me probably 10+ years ago.  Since I was going home for Thanksgiving, and wouldn’t be here for Christmas, I wanted to make sure I put them up with enough time for me to enjoy them all!  I even placed my penguin stocking above the fire place.  On Monday, I decided to get a wreath for my door. I just love getting off the elevator and seeing my bright, happy looking wreath!  Of course I had to get the one with the large bow on it.

So I have my Christmas decorations up, my mug full of hot chocolate, the rain pouring outside, and now I’m just ready to snuggle up with a blanket and watch Christmas movies on Netflix. Of course, that won’t be happening anytime soon, as there of course, is lots to get done!  But soon, I will be doing that.  If only it would snow in LA…

Decorating for Fall

Nothing more makes me wish that it actually felt like fall.  Pumpkin Spice Lattes are out and it seems like everywhere else is experiencing fall.  My cousin in Boston is in the cold weather, wearing boots and sweaters.  Leaves are changing everywhere. Everywhere that is, except for outside my window.  In my room, I have this huge window where I get a great view of the trees and since I’m on the third floor, I also get to see a little bit of Pasadena.  However, for whatever reason, even though it’s October, getting light later, and getting dark earlier, California is still in the middle of its heat wave!  I was talking to my childhood friend who lives in San Francisco, and she was telling me that this weekend was up to 90 degrees. Very rare for the city.(Speaking of San Francisco, THE GIANTS WON LAST NIGHT!! You have no idea how excited my whole family is. And how sad Shawn is that the Dodgers lost!)

None the less, I was emailing my aunt yesterday, and we got talking about Pinterest.  And well, that just seemed to snowball from there. I then ended up spending a little time on Pinterest.  Oh how I can not wait to decorate for the holidays! I would begin decorating now, but it seems a little crazy to have it so hot outside, and then walk into my condo where it’s a steady 73 degrees with fall decorations all over the place.  But here are some of the ideas I’m coming up with, thanks to my good amount of time on Pinterest.
